Installing MuteDeck
Download and install MuteDeck on Windows or macOS.
Download MuteDeck
Visit mutedeck.com/downloads to download the latest version for your platform.
Windows Installation
System Requirements
- Windows 10 (version 1903) or later, or Windows 11
- 64-bit processor (x64 or ARM64)
- At least 100MB of free disk space
Installation Steps
- Download the Windows installer (.exe file)
- Run the installer - you may see a Windows Defender SmartScreen warning
- Click "More info" and then "Run anyway" if prompted
- Follow the installation wizard - choose installation location if desired
- Launch MuteDeck from the Start menu or desktop shortcut
First Launch
- MuteDeck will appear in your system tray (notification area)
- You may see a Windows Firewall notification - allow access for full functionality
macOS Installation
System Requirements
- macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later
- Intel or Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Mac
- At least 100MB of free disk space
Installation Steps
- Download the macOS installer (.dmg file)
- Open the .dmg file and open the MuteDeck installer that's inside
- Follow the installation wizard - choose installation location if desired
- Launch MuteDeck from Applications or Spotlight search
- Allow permissions when prompted (see permissions section below)
macOS Permissions (Important!)
MuteDeck needs special permissions to work properly on macOS:
Accessibility Permission
- macOS will prompt you to grant Accessibility access
- Click "Open System Preferences" when prompted
- In Privacy & Security > Accessibility, click the lock to make changes
- Check the box next to MuteDeck.app
- If MuteDeck isn't listed, click "+" and navigate to
/Applications/MuteDeck/MuteDeck.app
Automation Permission
- Go to System Preferences > Privacy & Security > Automation
- Check the box next to MuteDeck.app
- If not listed, click "+" and add MuteDeck.app
Permission Reset
These permissions may reset when you update macOS or MuteDeck. Simply remove the MuteDeck app from the Accessibility list and then add it again following the same steps.
Browser Extensions (For Web Meetings)
If you use web-based meetings (Google Meet, web Zoom, web Teams):
Chrome Extension
- Visit the Chrome Web Store
- Click "Add to Chrome"
- Allow permissions when prompted (needed for meeting detection)
Firefox Extension
- Visit Firefox Add-ons
- Click "Add to Firefox"
- Allow permissions when prompted
Extension Permissions Explained
- Access browsing history: Used for "bring to front" feature, not actually reading history
- Access data for websites: Required to detect and control meeting interfaces
First Setup
After installation:
- Join a test meeting in your preferred video app
- Open MuteDeck settings (click the slider icon in the app)
- Configure your preferences:
- Set up hotkeys if desired
- Configure Teams API if using Microsoft Teams, or other integrations
- Create custom actions
- Test functionality by muting/unmuting in MuteDeck
Licensing
- A 7-day free trial begins automatically after installation, so you can test all features.
- After the trial, purchase a license from mutedeck.com/pricing
- Enter license key in MuteDeck settings when received
Updating MuteDeck
Automatic Updates
- MuteDeck checks for updates automatically
- You'll be notified when an update is available
- Updates install automatically on next app restart
Manual Updates
- Download the latest version from mutedeck.com/downloads
- Install over your existing installation
- Your settings and license will be preserved
Uninstalling MuteDeck
To uninstall MuteDeck, you will need to use the maintenance tool. Follow the steps below based on your operating system:
Windows
- Navigate to the MuteDeck installation directory. Typically, this can be found at C:\Program Files\MuteDeck.
- Locate the MuteDeckMaintenanceTool.exe file in the MuteDeck installation directory.
- Double-click on MuteDeckMaintenanceTool.exe to run it.
- The maintenance tool window will open. Select the Uninstall option.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the uninstallation of MuteDeck.
macOS
- Navigate to the MuteDeck installation directory. Typically, this can be found at /Applications/MuteDeck.
- Locate the MuteDeckMaintenanceTool.app file in the MuteDeck installation directory.
- Double-click on MuteDeckMaintenanceTool.app to run it.
- The maintenance tool window will open. Select the Uninstall option.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the uninstallation of MuteDeck.
That's it! You have successfully uninstalled MuteDeck from your system.
Troubleshooting Installation
Windows Issues
- Installer won't run: Right-click installer and "Run as administrator"
- Antivirus blocking: Add MuteDeck to your antivirus whitelist
- SmartScreen warning: Click "More info" then "Run anyway"
macOS Issues
- "Cannot be opened" error: Right-click app and select "Open"
- Gatekeeper blocking: Go to System Preferences > Security and click "Open Anyway"
- Permissions not working: Manually add MuteDeck in System Preferences
