# How working from home benefits employees

Working from home instead of travelling into the office each day has a range of benefits. While being fully remote is probably a step too far for some people and especially some companies, hybrid opportunities are more popular than ever.

This article takes a look at some of the key benefits of working from home.

# Working from home saves you money

From saving on big expenses like commuting, to smaller habitual spends (looking at you, coffee addiction), working from home is a great way to save money.

You're even saved from having to chip-in to all the communal events like birthdays and leaving gifts if you are lucky enough.

We covered all the ways working from home can save you money in this dedicated article.

# Quality time with your family

Working from home means not only saving money on commuting, but also something that's even more valuable than money: time.

It takes me an hour to get from my house to my office. That's two hours of travelling time on those days I'm commuting to and from the office.

Whilst working from home I start and finish at the same time, so that becomes two additional hours of quality time I can spend with my family.

Don't get me wrong - the commute home can be a great way to unwind from the stresses of work and help to 'not bring work home with you', so it is important to take some time to refresh, even if it's a nice shower after you finish or taking the dog for a walk around the block.

If you live alone, these extra bonus hours can be spent on whatever you like: gaming, reading, learning a new skill or simply catching up on sleep.

# Commitments outside of work

We all have various commitments outside of our work life, and when you are working full time from the office all week it can be hard to fit them all in.

This is usually because most things operate Monday-Friday and not the weekends, so you are at work the entire time the service you require is open.

When working from home, even for one or two days a week, it gives you the opportunity to schedule in those commitments for those days. That could be before work, during your lunch break or finishing early and jumping back on your emails after.

This helps you to book in that doctors appointment you need. It helps you to be available for those big deliveries turning up at your residence.

An early finish could help you be available for things like a parents evening, which if you were working in the city until 6pm, would likely have no chance of getting back for.

# Deep focus work opportunities

Let's be honest. The office can be distracting! Especially if you have one of those colleagues who loves to chat constantly. Sometimes it's impossible to really focus on the work that needs that attention, and you find yourself shoving the headphones in to try and block out the noise.

Working from home on certain days as part of a hybrid working policy can enable you to schedule certain times for deep focus work. You can switch off all external noise, put some chill music on your smart speaker if needed, and focus on that number one priority for an hour without distraction.

Just that hour of work could prove to be more productive than an entire day working from the office with all those various distractions, questions and tea breaks in the communal kitchen.
